Why This Reference Exists
Printed Fort Worth and suburban directories preserve part of Tarrant's past, but they do not answer every current question. Present parcel data belongs with Tarrant Appraisal District, recorded land instruments with the Tarrant County Clerk, and registration information with Elections. Historical directories, maps, and newspapers live in different library and archive collections. We organize those distinct routes so a name, address, or family-history question starts with the custodian that can actually verify it.
What the Directory Includes
- Search paths by question: the street directory for address-keyed material, the city directory for historical volumes, and the resident lookup for verifying one person.
- Named custodians: the appraisal district, County Clerk, Elections office, court clerks, vital-record offices, libraries, and archives.
- Practical distinctions: the difference between a situs address and mailing address, an index and an image, and a historic listing and a current fact.
- Access limits: Texas Public Information Act routes, statutory confidentiality, and the counter, mail, archive, or library fallbacks when an online search ends.
